Our Story

Holy Smokes Cheese Company really started with a dog named George.

George was always by my side while I was outside cooking BBQ, tending the smoker, and experimenting with new recipes. What began as a simple love for smoking meats and cooking for friends slowly turned into a passion for creating something bigger. Coming from the Midwest, I was raised to work hard, take pride in what you make, and bring people together with good food. Around here, the smoker was never just about food — it was about family, stories, laughs, and slowing life down for a little while.

As time went on, the cheese became just as important as the BBQ. One smoked block turned into another, then came smoked salts, snacks, pimento cheese, and all kinds of creations coming out of the smokehouse. Before long, Holy Smokes Cheese Company became more than a hobby — it became a dream.

Then came Lloyd.

Lloyd had a personality bigger than life. He loved everyone he met, loved laying in the sun while I worked near the smoker, and became part of the heart and soul of the business. Customers knew him, kids loved him, and he somehow made every stressful day better just by being there. Sadly, we lost Lloyd just a few months ago at only 5 years old, and not a day goes by that he isn’t missed. His spirit is still part of this company, and always will be.

After Lloyd passed, Walter stepped up and officially took over as the “Salt Boss.” He now supervises the smoked salts, snack mixes, and keeps a close eye on quality control — especially if snacks hit the floor.

And now the newest member of the crew has arrived… Mortimer (“Morty” for short).

Morty is the newest supervisor in training, already making himself at home around the smoker, snackle boxes, and happy hour setup. He may be small, but he’s already bringing new energy, smiles, and a whole lot of personality to Holy Smokes.

At the end of the day, this business is built on hard work, family, good people, and the memories made around food. Every batch that comes out of the smoker has a little bit of that story in it.
